APTEC (Aboriginal Peoples Training & Employment Commission)

APTEC is the employment and training division for the Native Council of Nova Scotia. It was established early on to provide employment and training services to rural, urban, off-reserve Indigenous People in Nova Scotia.

In 1999, APTEC expanded its services that included funds to directly sponsor Indigenous individuals for training and employment interventions. Given that, there are currently two agreements set up in Nova Scotia to do this, APTEC services are open to all rural, urban, off-reserve Indigenous Peoples, hower direct sponsorship through APTEC is restricted to those off-reserve Indigenous Peoples who are not registered to a Nova Scotia First Nation.

APTEC offers the target group a range of employment and training services with the goal to obtain and maintain long term sustainable employment. This is completed through assessment, employment counselling, and development of a mutually agreed upon return to work action plan, and where determined, sponsorship support.

Productivity in Partnership

Through the years, APTEC has worked and continues to work with a number of training institutions, employer partners, and industry, therefore, if you’re looking for work experience pertaining to your post secondary program or if you’re graduating and looking for employment, contact APTEC. In addition, if you’re considering taking a formal skills development program at NSCC, a private career college or need work related courses (First Aid, CPR, etc) and wondering about financial assistance, talk with us to see if we can assist or make a connection for you.
