Employer Supports

Target Wage Subsidy (TWS)  – Wage subsidies are provided to encourage Employers to hire unemployed off-reserve Indigenous individuals.  TWS’ are for individuals, who are unemployed, underemployed, who have a disability or youth who are entering the workforce for the first time. This program can also be for individuals who have been out of the workforce for a long time.  The objective of a TWS is for the individual to gain valuable work experience by applying their skills in a new occupation. This arrangement helps employers work with these individuals and can break down barriers to achieve long-term employment and provide the employer with human resources during a specified time period.

Job Creation Partnership (JCP) – To support employers, employee, community groups and communities in developing and implementing strategies for dealing with human resource requirements. This lends itself to undertaking Industry Partnership to train Indigenous Peoples for employment within their Industry.   These partnerships will provide off-reserve Indigenous people who are on an active EI claim with valuable work experience while supporting a community’s economic development goals.

Summer Work Experience (SWE) – To help off-reserve Indigenous clients who are students to obtain summer employment through wage subsidies provided to employers.  This gives the students a chance to learn new skills and to refine current skills to complement their formal learning.

Annual Employer Conference – Employers from all over the province attend the APTEC Annual Employer Conference to network and take part in workshops or information sessions that support Indigenous inclusion and diversity in the workplace. One of our speakers from 2022 was Keith Gelhorn from ADDvocacy LTD. Keith led a session Called “From Labourer to Leader: Tapping into the Power of a Neurodivergent Mind.” Keith’s session talked about how employers can approach and work with employees who are neurodiverse.

Recruitment – APTEC will support employers with recruitment activities by including any job advertisement on their social media, on site in their offices or through their website. In addition, APTEC can job match employers to registered Indigenous persons with our service to advertised jobs or to fill their current human resource need for short term or temporary positions.
